Q&A: why does my dog pee when I touch her?

cat training tips: Question by falfalmgal: why does my dog pee when I touch her?
My six month old Daschund, Layla, has been a very fun dog except for her submissive urination. We have never hit her or have given reasons for her to fear us, but everytime me, my husband, or anyone else touches with one finger or more, she pees. She is still being crate trained which breaks my heart because my other 3 dogs were already potty trained by this age. She waits until we take her outside to pee, but we have to physically take the crate outside, open the door, and let her run free. Then, she finds a spot and pees, and we praise her. If we touch her to praise, she pees again! Please give me any advice if you had to deal with this problem before. thanks.
I just wanted to clear a few things. She plays with the other dogs very dominantly and is very excited with them. She does not ever pee with them during rough and tumble. When I approach her, I am very calm, I do crouch down, and if she jumps on me and I pet her she does not pee. It is only when I reach across to her. In addition, she LOVES her crate, it is her safe haven after play because she is used to it. Thanks for all the answers.

IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOU HAVE A VERY ANXIOUS DOG. SHE IS PROBABLY JUST VERY EXCITED TO BE PAID ATTENTION TO AND SHE GETS NERVOUS OR ANXIOUS WHEN SOMEONE IS PAYING ATTENTION TO HER. THIS MAY NEVER GO AWAY COMPLETELY. DOGS HAVE CHARACTERISTICS LIKE HUMANS AND JUST LIKE YOU HAVE SHY OR OUTGOING PEOPLE, DOGS CAN BE THE SAME. APPROACH HER CAUTIOUSLY AND QUIETLY.S EE IF THAT WORKS

It sounds like it is an excited pee. The dog gets excited when she is praised or touched and can’t “help herself”. I have seen how to deal with this before, but can’t remember how it went. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

ITs prehaps that it hasn’t gain trust in you yet, take care of her and see if it presists. If it does then you should call an experienced dog owner, breeder, or a vet to see what the problem is especially if its under the chin or behind the ears. Maybe cat tip will calm her down.

Something shell grow out of. Keep trying and get her to trust you. I had one like that now I can pick him up and he wont pee. Almost when anyone else does to and its been like a month.

take her to the vet she could have a urinary tract infection,or a blockage, kidney or liver problems. Spend the money before it is too late and you run into further expenses

Why do you have to take the crate outside? Couldn’t you just open the crate door and the door to go outside so she can run out? Also, some dogs pee when they are excited, so you could try petting her outside instead of right away inside.

my dog is 4 and pees every time we come home from somewhere because he is just excited he also pees sometimes if you excite him with any happy tones. he has become better but i don’t think that this would ever stop. Also she might have a bladder problem. Also the problem might have started at the place where you brought her from. So good luck and i hope your dog stops.
